Do You Need a Permit?

Your Responsibility

It's the couple's responsibility to check if a permit is required and obtain one before the ceremony. We can't proceed if you don't have permission to use the location.

Small ceremonies (under 20 people)

Many public parks don't require permits for small, informal gatherings. However, it's always best to check with your local council.

Larger ceremonies (20+ people)

Most councils require a permit for larger events in public spaces. Fees vary but are typically $50-$200. Book well in advance for popular locations.

Kings Park

Kings Park requires permits for all weddings. Contact the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority for bookings. Popular spots book months ahead.

What If It Rains?

Perth weather is generally reliable, but it's always smart to have a backup plan. Here are some options:

  • Book a venue with indoor and outdoor options
  • Identify a nearby covered area (gazebo, rotunda, pavilion)
  • Have a backup indoor location ready (home, restaurant, hotel)
  • Keep umbrellas handy - a 15-minute ceremony is manageable in light rain
  • Consider the time of year when planning (winter in Perth = rain season)

Remember: the ceremony only takes 10-15 minutes. Even if it's a bit windy or overcast, we can usually make it work!

Tips for Choosing Your Location

Visit beforehand

Check out the location at the same time of day as your ceremony. Note the lighting, any noise issues, and where guests might stand.

Consider your guests

Is there parking? Is it accessible for elderly or disabled guests? Will they be standing or can they sit?

Think about photos

If you're having a photographer, the location is your backdrop. Choose somewhere that will look great in photos.
