How Do I Get Married?
Getting legally married in Australia is simpler than you think. Here's the whole process in 4 easy steps.
Book Online
Pick your date, location, and package. Pay securely online.
- Choose a date at least 1 calendar month away (legal requirement)
- Select your preferred location or visit a nearby celebrant
- Pick your package and any extras
- Pay online - it's that simple
Complete Your NOIM
Fill out your Notice of Intended Marriage form.
- We'll send you the NOIM form to complete
- At least 1 of the partners needs to sign it to get it lodged
- Have your ID documents ready (passport, birth certificate, etc.)
- This must be lodged with us at least 1 month before your ceremony
Get Married!
Say "I do" and it's official.
- Bring at least 2 witnesses (over 18, who understand English)
- Your assigned celebrant performs the legal ceremony
- Sign the marriage register
- Receive your Form 15 presentation certificate on the spot
Paperwork Done
We handle lodging your marriage with Births, Deaths & Marriages.
- Your celebrant lodges the paperwork within 14 days
- You can order your official marriage certificate from BDM
- That's it - you're legally married!
Common Questions
How long does the whole process take?
From booking to wedding day, the minimum is 1 calendar month (due to the legal NOIM requirement).
What do I need to bring on the day?
Just yourselves, your rings (if exchanging), and at least 2 witnesses over 18 who understand English. You can decorate and style your chosen location however you like. Your celebrant handles everything else.
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! You can personalise your ceremony however you like. The only legal requirements are certain words that must be said.
What's the difference between packages?
The Office package is at the celebrant's location. The Essentials package means we come to you on weekdays. The Celebration package includes weekends and extra services.
